A development application at court does not always have to involve dispute and conflict. In this series of posts, we reflect on several projects where, with our colleagues, we were able to achieve a more structured and nuanced dialogue between all interested parties.
One Sydney Park is a major development surrounded by the 44 hectare Sydney Park. It includes retail, creative workspaces and apartments across 7 buildings. Nigel Dickson (Dickson Rothschild) served as the Urban Design Expert to advise and negotiate vital design refinements with Council’s Experts. The changes were intended to address the concerns regarding potential impact on the adjoining parklands and regarding residential on busy Euston Road. The development now boasts a high-quality interface between built form and park, and a positive streetscape outcome on Euston Park Road.
Commissioner Walsh in his judgment accepted the Expert that the final proposed design would be “compatible with Sydney Park and would not bring about an unreasonable adverse effect on user enjoyment of the park”.
